Modality Systems Monthly Update
Welcome to what is our 1st blog of 2012, and also the 1st in a new series of monthly updates in which we’ll highlight what’s been going on in the UC community.
Working alongside our news section, the blog will continue to give an in depth analysis of how UC can impact on your organisations ability to communicate and collaborate, whilst also discussing new and proposed feature updates that will ultimately improve your overall UC experience.
In addition, where we see an article that we believe is worthy of your attention, we’ll point you to it, and if we see a blog that’s worth a read, again we’re happy to shout about it.
With this in mind here’s a couple to wet your appetite. Granted they’re authored by a few of our very own consultants, but they’re a great source of information, whether you’re looking for technical information relating to certain features or product sets, or just want another source to compliment your reading.
So, without further ado, I feel its only right that we tell you what we’ve been up to over the past few months, and provide you with an insight into some of the activity that has been taking place within Modality Systems.
Modality Systems 5th Anniversary
On March 7th this year Modality Systems celebrated its 5th anniversary. Setup in 2007 by co-founders James Rodd and John Lamb, modality has grown into one of the leading Unified Communication Consultancy service providers across the Globe. At Modality we continue to put our customer’s interests first, ensuring you are able to make best use of your existing investments, whilst providing clear vision and direction as you move forward with your UC Strategy.
Over the years Modality has continued to set itself apart from other providers with its ‘Cradle to Grave’ approach to services, and its unique Justify, Deploy, Develop, and Support methodology. We’ve also created our own in-house team of developers who are focussed on developing custom Lync enabled applications to compliment your line of business systems and workflows
Tom Morgan who recently joined our development team, created this great little ‘click to call’ feature. Take a look, we’re sure like it. While you’re at it why not download ‘SuperToast’? It’s free! Over 1000 individuals have downloaded it to date, and the feedback has been extremely positive.
Williams F1 Event
Towards the end February we hosted a Lync event at Williams F1. Clearly a venue that would attract a lot of interest, Williams we’re exceptional hosts, and as you would expect, provided first rate facilities. The day was split into two halves, with the morning taken up by a live demonstration of Lync’s capabilities, a demonstration of our new Lync enabled ‘TrainMe’ application, and finally a customer presentation provided by Simon Leyland of AstraZeneca who provided a great insight into how Astra Zeneca built out its Unified Communications strategy, and managed user adoption across the globe.
After Lunch delegates we’re treated to a tour of the Williams F1 Museum and Trophy room, and for those who could not hold back their inner child, a number of laps in the Williams F1 simulator.
Personally I was sure I could set the fastest time, but I was reminded of a scene from Star Wars whereby C3- PO was advised to ‘let the Wookiee win’. That’s my excuse anyway![]()
Microsoft Lync Police/Fire & Rescue Live Meeting
Hot on the back of the Williams F1 event, Modality Systems in partnership with Microsoft. hosted a Live Meeting session for the Police and Fire & Rescue Services across the UK.
Initially focusing on Lync’s functional and intuitive client, attendees were given an overview of Lync’s various modalities e.g. IM, Presence, Conferencing (audio, video, web) and Enterprise Voice, before moving onto real life working examples of how Lync can impact on the ability of Emergency Services to communicate and collaborate with partner organisations.
Day to day processes such as joint activities between the Emergency Services and Local Authorities were discussed, as was the ability of Lync to improve and simplify communication between ‘Blue Light’ services and Partner agencies during times of Civil Contingency.
More sessions are planned so watch for updates in our ‘News’ section for topics targeted specifically at your line of business.
Microsoft EBC for Housing Associations
Earlier this month, and in partnership with Microsoft, we hosted an Executive Briefing Session for Housing associations. Held at Microsoft’s Cardinal Place, Housing associations from England, Scotland, and Wales were treated to a live demonstration of Lync’s ability to enhance communication and collaboration, whilst improving processes and workflow across business areas.
Delegates also benefited from a live presentation from the team at Newport City Homes who demonstrated how they had taken advantage of Lync’s ability to integrate seamlessly with Dynamics CRM, SharePoint, and Aspects UIP7 Contact centre, to improve the transfer of information and knowledge across departmental boundaries, while enabling them to improve the levels of customer service they are able to offer their tenants.
Tom Arbuthnot MVP adventure
As I’m sure we’ve mentioned in previous posts, Modality Systems only employs the best individuals from within the UC community, and also individuals who fit into our award winning team. Tom Arbuthnot is proof of this approach having recently been awarded the title of Microsoft Lync MVP. Tom had this to say about his recent trip to Seattle and the MVP Summit.
"The MVP summit was a great opportunity to catch up with many of the great people in the enthusiastic Lync Community from around the work to share ideas and experiences".
Proposal for a new Lync step by step guide
In other news, Darren Lloyd, Business Development Manager at Modality Systems is honoured to have been approached by Microsoft Publishing to put together a proposal for a brand new Microsoft Lync Step by Step Guide. Following in the footsteps of other Microsoft Step by Step guides, the book will highlight Lync’s capabilities, explain how users can navigate through the Lync client’s many modalities including, IM, Presence, Conferencing, Collaboration, and Enterprise voice, whilst also providing examples of how Lync is able to integrate with other products from within the Microsoft Product Portfolio.
We’ll keep you posted on how this great opportunity progresses, and of course whether or not Darren’s proposal is ultimately accepted. Fingers crossed!!!
Coming Up
Modality Systems will be hosting or presenting at a number of events throughout April. Firstly, Darren Lloyd and James Rodd will be demonstrating the widely accepted benefits of Microsoft Lync to delegates attending the 6th Annual Microsoft Worldwide Public Sector Forum. As always we’re sure the delegates will be suitably impressed and will leave with a greater understanding of the positive impact Lync can have on business processes, and how it can enhance the ability of organisations to communicate and collaborate effectively with external partners.
Secondly, and continuing with the format of recent events at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, and Williams F1 in Oxfordshire, Modality Systems will be planning an additional event at the RAF Museum in Hendon. Keep a lookout for updates on our News page for more information on this and other events.
